Volunteers needed

The programs of Veritas depend on close cooperation between paid Romanian staff, Romanian volunteers, and volunteers and students from the west.

Romanian volunteers:

Volunteer coordinator Eugenia Maior interviews potential volunteers and places them either in one of the local institutions or in one of the programs of Veritas.  Currently Romanian volunteers work

  • with abandoned children in the pediatric section of the local hospital
  • running a craft program at the local old people's home
  • providing socio-educational activities at the girls' orphanage
  • at Veritas elderly program

New  volunteers are currently needed to work with isolated elderly and handicapped people. Volunteers should be willing to give two or three hours a week to visit an elderly or handicapped person, do simple household chores, and/or simply spend time chatting over a cup of tea.

Romanians interested in volunteering should call Petronia Popa at Tel. Nr. 779999

Western volunteers:

Volunteers typically come for periods varying from a month to a year, or longer.

Currently Veritas can use persons with skills and experience in the following areas:

  • working with children from deprived backgrounds, the disabled, the elderly
  • community nursing
  • reaching out to children and young people through teaching drama, music, art
  • teaching English as a Second Language
  • youth ministry, including counseling on issues such as substance abuse, sexuality, etc.
  • administration of a non-profit organization - financial management, staff development and supervision, program development
  • fund-raising and grant-writing
  • small business development (current projects include a coffee shop, a small farm, desk-top publishing, tourism services)

Volunteers must respect the Christian values for which Veritas stands and be willing to work as members of the Veritas team.  Members of the Church of the Nazarene are required to come to Romania under the "Nazarene in Volunteer Service" program,
